This photo (left) is of Hope showing at Crufts. She had already won Best Puppy in Breed at the East Anglia Championship Breed show.
Hope is out of China's last litter. The sire was again Wizaland Newz Daily. China's puppies were, as usual, beautiful. This time I wanted a black and white puppy and I picked one that was at the time, quiet, laid back, fearless and loved everyone. Since then she has become a rowdy, bouncing-off-the-wall 24 hours a day, shy young dog.
Extremely obedient, very (too?) focused on me. A bit wary of people she doesn’t know but a cuddle or tidbit will make you her friend for life. I have shown her several times and she has often qualified for Crufts. The very first time I showed her was at Newark and some idiot turned on one of the big gas heat blowers as we were standing in front of it. It terrified her (and me) and she had one thought in mind and that was to leave. Even in the show ring she wouldn’t allow the judge to go over her, she was too busy hiding behind me or trying to leave the ring and the building. The judge was brusque which didn’t help things either. I do wish some judges would realise that for a young puppy, gentle handling is important. Some judges go into their mouths to see the teeth as if they were handling horses. In spite of this she has done quite well in the show ring. When we go to the vet for she lets him look in her mouth, ears, eyes, run his hands over her body, use the stethoscope and take her temperature. While he is doing this she is usually licking his face and wagging her tail. Apart from very little showing we do a little fun Obedience. As long as she is with me she is happy. I started her with sheep but owing to the lack of sheep in the area and the distance I would now have to drive a long way to train her, it just isn’t practical.
Shannon became her best friend who was obsessed with her and followed her everywhere she went like a lovesick schoolboy.
The 14th January 2014 I had to let her go to Rainbow Bridge. Loving is to know when to say goodbye.
